Looking forward to the Old 24 Breakaway ride tomorrow.  Expect the average speed to be around 19.5 mph.

We will be heading out from Cyclewerks in Whitehouse at 6:30 for a 28.6 mile loop out to Old 24 and heading north on County Road 3. Come on out and enjoy the fun.

I had to miss Windsday due to a family obligation, but Edgar filled in and had this to say:

“27 riders signed in and two strays joined for a total of 29 riders. F&F had an avg of 22.1 with 7 riders, Jenifer had 10 riders and an avg of 19.5, Dan Becker had 7 riders and an avg of 17.4, Ron Schieb rode with 5 and had an avg of 15.5.

“Everyone reported a smooth ride, the wind was approximately 8 from SSW. The highlight of the evening was that we were asked around 6:25 to move the cars toward the track side of the parking lot, because an award evening. So the ride started at 6:40. And indeed, the parking at the school was maxed out when we came back, some parked even in the grass. Glad we promptly reacted, so we don’t get kicked out of that ride start location.

“Great ride. Now we have to watch Trevor so that he can’t get away with that new bike.”

Instead of the “Horsin’ Around”, the Adventurer’s had hard work. Wind that increased from 8 mph to 17 mph, and the sudden arrival of 84 degree summer heat took its toll on us. 15 riders worked together as we wandered over roads that some of us hadn’t seen for years, or ever. By the time we reached Liberty Ctr, we were so tired we couldn’t really take advantage of the great tail wind. And issues? Try 4 flats, one before we even started! But we finished our longest ride of the season in good time, arriving back at Keener Park with 49 miles by 11:45. We averaged 16.8, an excellent speed considering the conditions and the stops.

Tim and Michelle Prand joined us after being MIA for a while. Suzanne Peats, Jim Binns and Pete Pirano chased us down, said hi, and then went on their merry way. And we had a visitor - Art Girten. Art and his wife are living on the road. He contacted Chuck then joined us on our jaunt. A great rider and addition to the group. I hope he’ll swing back through and join us again.

Next week’s Adventure? Deb’s “Luckey Haskin’s Trail” will be her Easy Rider Adventure, leaving from the Perrysburg Y for 45 miles of fun. Details to follow.

This Saturday the Meandering Group will leave out of Whitehouse and roll through Waterville crossing over the Maumee River. We will then head down to Tontogany before meandering West to Grand Rapids for a quick break if needed. After resting we will be returning to Whitehouse for a total trip of around 30 miles.

Speedtrap Ride Tuesday May 21^st recap

The Speedtrap Ride attracted twenty-five riders to Elmore this past Tuesday, May 21^st.

Scott Lang led the Ghost Pepper Riders over a 25-mile course and reported an average of 20.9 mph.

Tony Mazurek led the Habanero Riders over the same course and reported 18.1 mph

The Jalapenos were the most disconnected group of the evening. Ron Berry and I started out as the only two. At the half-way point, Mike Meiser, from another group, still not recovered, decided to take the short cut back to Elmore. Ron Berry’s tire was low, so he rode back with Mike. Mark Radabaugh was dropped by the Habaneros, and rode back with me, who was feeling unusually exhausted. We averaged 13.9 mph.

Marnie Arndt led the Sweet Pepper Riders and rode 20.8 miles at 13.1 mph.

Adam Silbaugh was a first-time Speedtrap Rider. He rode in the Sweet Pepper group. Welcome Adam!

The weather was not quite as good as last week. The was a slight tailwind on the first leg of the ride and a slight headwind on the return, with the temperature in the upper 50s.

Please join us next Tuesday, May 28^th, for the next Speedtrap Ride. The long-range forecast is for warmer weather, and all riders hopefully will be in better form. We roll out at 6:30 pm. I hope to see you then!

Yesterday's Old 24 Ride turned out to be PERFECT.  I would not have guessed that by the chilly weather and the rain that was hitting my windshield on my drive to the ride. We had 13 riders on our PERFECT ride out to Old 24. Our team pulled out a solid 19.3 mph average over the 28.5 mile route. We had light winds and no rain!  Thanks everyone for coming out.

With everyone down at Horsey this weekend, I thought we’d do a bit of horsin’ around ourselves this Saturday. We’re going to Liberty Center, but we’re noodling over back roads all the way. We do have short stretch on Old 24, but not enough to take away from the Memorial 100 experience. Mileage is just under 50 mi, and I’d like to see 17 average. Weather? It’s too far out to be accurate, but strong winds and warm temps are predicted for the morning.

We leave from Keener Park, just south of Monclova Rd on Keener (4700 Keener Rd for you who GPS), 8:00 sharp. Arrive early, be ready to ride and enjoy the company. See you there

What a difference a day can make. Today - 55 and cloudy, tomorrow - 75 and partly sunny. Stay home tonight and ride tomorrow. You can come join our crew tomorrow for a ride in the warm, the way it should be! And remember, we have a new 4th group, the Relaxed group for those who prefer a more comfortable ride. Target speeds in the 15ish range depending on the riders. Come on out and join Edgar, Jen, super sub Ron, and a mystery ride leader – so mysterious that even they don’t know who they are! We leave promptly at 6:30 from Timberstone Jr HS 9000 W. Sylvania Ave in Sylvania. Arrive early, be ready to ride and enjoy the warm.

Cyclewerks, along with the Wheelmen Racing and Team Toledo Triathlon Club, presented us with a unique opportunity on Saturday afternoon. Rolf Dietrich, the brains behind the paired spoke Rolf wheelsets that many of us ride, spent some time with us at the Cyclewerks Whitehouse location, signing wheels and shirts and even went out and rode a circuit of the Wabash with us. It was a great afternoon for a ride!
